Live drought status by state and region · Updated daily from 18 government sources
Drought is the most significant risk to Australian agriculture. agriIQ monitors drought conditions daily across all Australian states and 57 SA4 sub-regions using rainfall data from SILO DataDrill, soil moisture from Open-Meteo, dam storage from BOM, and climate driver signals (SOI, ENSO, IOD) from BOM and NOAA. This page provides a current snapshot of drought-relevant indicators for agri-lenders, financial advisers, and rural professionals.

The national seasonal conditions score is 48/100. The current ENSO phase is Neutral with an SOI of +2. No Queensland shires are currently drought-declared. See the state-by-state breakdown below for detailed conditions.
agriIQ combines rainfall data from SILO DataDrill (57 SA4 regions), soil moisture from Open-Meteo, dam storage levels from BOM, SOI and ENSO data from BOM/NOAA, and Queensland drought declarations from Long Paddock. All data is refreshed daily by 7:00 AM AEST.
Queensland is the only Australian state with a formal drought declaration system, managed through Long Paddock (Queensland Government). Other states use different drought assessment mechanisms — NSW uses the Combined Drought Indicator (CDI), while other states rely on various departmental assessments.
The seasonal conditions score (0-100) combines rainfall vs historical averages, soil moisture, and climate driver signals (SOI, ENSO, IOD). Scores below 40 (red band) indicate challenging conditions with elevated drought risk. Scores between 40-59 (amber) indicate mixed conditions warranting monitoring.
agriIQ refreshes all drought-related data daily. Rainfall, soil moisture, and SOI data are updated each morning. Queensland drought declarations are updated when new data is published by Long Paddock. Dam storage levels are updated from BOM Water Data.
